ServicesWorkshops and antenatal classes
The Birthing with Confidence worskshops cover in-depth the process of a natural physiological birth, and provide information and practice in natural coping techniques. They take place over a single day or two half days (depending on venue availability) at The Yoga Tree in Takapuna. To find out more about the workshops please go to Workshop Information.
Jo also offers 8 week antenatal courses, based at Maternity Associates, 2/317 Sunset Road, Mairangi Bay. These courses offer information covering pregnancy, birth and the first six weeks of being parents. They are aimed at couples.
Contact Jo for dates of these classes.
One-on-one debrief and birth discussion
Trying to unravel how you feel about a previous birth? Jo is available to spend time with you to talk through your experience and help answer any questions you may have. You can begin to come to terms with the previous experience and to let it go. Together you can look at what you might do the next time; knowing that every birth is different and your last experience doesn't have to be repeated. Contact Jo to explore this option further.
In-birth support
Many women have their life partner as their primary supporter in labour. It can be a wonderful experience for both mother and partner. It has the potential to bring you even closer together as you experience the birth together. For some couples it is not possible for the partner to be present. For others, it may be that they would like an additional supporter; for both Mum and her partner.
Recent research has shown that support from a trusted woman who has experienced labour herself is associated with shorter labours, less need for pain relief or intervention and more positive reports of the experience by both the mother and her partner. It may be that you have a close female relative or friend who fits the bill. Why not have a chat with her?
Alternatively, you might like to consider support from a doula or in-birth supporter such as Jo. Feel free to contact Jo to discuss.
